No charters last weekend because I was on dad duty. But I convinced my daughters to tough out a couple of damp and cold hours on the water. The fish were biting which brightened the spirits. Had a blast with this group celebrating a birthday yesterday afternoon! It didn't take long for them to get the feel for jigging. Those last few hours in particular, it was game on! Got back to my roots on this outing. Prior to this year, I only back trolled when vertical jigging and used a 2D sonar with a 5 inch screen. I landed quite a few fish using that bare bones setup. This was a crazy catch from last weekend! Not only was it crazy to jig up a musky with light table, but the way we got it to the boat was pretty crazy too! I hooked into it, it wrapped around my clients line, broke me off, then slid down to my clients jig and got hooked, she brought it to the boat. These gentlemen came out trolling with me on Lake Erie on a warm and gorgeous summer day back in July. This time they wanted to give Fall walleye jigging a try. Well, they got the full fall Bear Bones Fishing experience! A little rain, a little cold, with a nice feed of walleye. Had our first 2 perch charters in the @lundboats Alaskan yesterday. What a gorgeous day. Even the afternoon east wind stayed low enough to not bother anyone. Constant action from sun up to sundown, but we had to sift thru what felt like 1000 small ones. That said, everyone went home with a bag full of filets and some great memories. Thanks to @anglingsports and Collins Harbour Marina for keeping us stocked with minnows for the day. Well... Can't win'em all... Tried fishing on Lake Huron for the first time yesterday. The hope was to jig up some trout/salmon. Boy oh boy, what a humbling experience! I managed to mark a few fish and had a couple come up to the jig, but no takers except for this little goby (which I got in closer to shore). I launched out of Grand Bend, ran out to 100 feet of water, looked around in a few different spots heading South and ended in about 50 feet of water off Kettle Point. Gorgeous day though for the long ride back to Grand Bend. I covered 37 miles of water for a single goby 😂😂😂. Lake Huron is a different animal and makes me appreciate the guys who can do well out there this time of year!

After a string of cancellations the last 3 weeks, this outing felt extra nice! Returning clients, Steve and his grandson Beau, invited some friends this time. It was a slow ride out, but once we got to the fishing grounds, it was game on! Beau even brought a few lures he wanted to try and his trusty @williamslures Wobbler caught 4 or 5 of them. Some Central Basin Lake Erie walleye on the jig! What a fun way to catch them! There's no doubt trolling is your best bet when it comes to catching suspended summer walleye in Lake Erie. But with enough practice and patience, jigging for them becomes a viable (and I would say more exciting) way of catching them. And, you don't need forward facing sonar to do this! Prior to this year, I only used my 2D sonar (video is posted on my YouTube channel). Give it a try next time you're out. What a fun outing with this awesome couple. They came out bottom bouncing with me last spring, and they quickly became the most competitive people I've ever had on board. Anita took home the prize for landing most fish last year, despite Levi getting ahead early in the outing. It was a comeback of epic proportions! This year, we were on a different body of water with a different technique. So with a few changes to the rule set, this couple participated in round 2 of what we're calling the "Levita Cup". Same as last year, Levi started out strong, then Anita had a strong comeback. It came down to the last fish which went to Levi, making him the victor of round 2! Well this was a first... I brought out my first group of 4 this morning. Lines in by 6:30, 4 man limit by 8:45. It got a bit hectic, but man oh man was that fun! We had plenty of space on the new @lundboats Alaskan Most fish came on #1 size dipsy's, 3 setting 180 feet back or on #3 size dipsy, 0 setting 90 feet back. This was from a few days ago. I got a later start in the morning than I usually like. I had a hard time getting on them at the mouth of the river. After calling it quits, on my way back to the marina I noticed some stained water in the river and decided to stop and give it a try. It was midday, very little wind and clear sunny skies. Not the most ideal conditions for catching walleye, especially on the St. Clair River where the water is generally very clear. The stained water helped out a lot in this case. Yesterday I went up to Haliburton to do some work with a friend of mine. After getting the important things done, we went out on the ice for the last few hours of daylight. Before walking out, my buddy tells me, "this place is good for at least one fish"... Which in his speak means, we'll more than likely catch nothing. Well, we were both pretty surprised with the outcome. Managed to get into a few walleye and a perch. Missed a couple on the home made jaw jackers too! That's a wrap on the ice season.
